Are you juggling too many balls in the air? Trying to do everything at once? We have hundreds of conflicting priorities at work and in our personal lives. All this daily juggling can burn you out, leaving you with only a little time for the things and people that matter the most to us.
Changing just a few habits could help you tackle your To-Do lists more smoothly. Here are 15 simple ways recommended by many professional life coaches to show you how to increase productivity:
1. Be active
Exercise can help you get more done by boosting your energy levels and ability to concentrate.
2. Drop activities that drain your time or energy
Recognise the activities that are taking up your time that do not really enhance your career or personal life and minimise the time that you spend on these.
3. A little relaxation goes a long way
You have to make time in your schedule to recharge and do the things that bring you joy to be able to focus on the tasks that need to be done.
4. Plan your downtime
When you are planning your week ahead, remember to schedule in time to relax and meet up with your family and friends.
5. Rethink your priorities
Could you do your food shopping online and have them delivered? Hire someone to help you with your cleaning? Have your dry cleaning picked up and dropped off at your home or office? The time you'll save with a little help will make it worth it.
6. Love what you do
The simple act of loving what you are doing will change the way you approach your tasks. By loving what you are doing it takes away the feeling that it is work. Your time spent working this way will feel like it’s flying by.
7. Have an idea? Start now!
Just sitting on your ideas gets you nowhere. Don’t worry about how it will pan out just yet. You will build on your plan once you get started. Whatever the project is, kick start it now!
8. When are you most productive?
We all have certain times of the day when we work at our best. Are you an early bird or are you a night owl? Find out which one you are and make the most of those hours, as that is when you will be the most productive.
9. Track your achievements
Seeing your results will drive you on to achieve even more! Keeping track lets you look back and see how far you have come. Share your successes with friends and family; having someone else chart these with you can be a strong motivator.
10. Make a To-Do List
On the same note, ticking things off your To-Do list gives you a great sense of achievement too! It also works well to keep your plans structured and organised, allowing you to increase productivity.
Sounds pretty simple but you would be amazed how little everyone pays attention to how much rest they get. Most of us burn the midnight oil to get work done but you will do a much better job if you have had enough sleep and tackle the task afresh!
12. Get help
Can you outsource some of the work? Don’t be afraid to ask for help.
13. Know that you cannot do EVERYTHING
Do not say ‘Yes’ to every offer that comes your way. However exciting the projects are you will be stretching yourself too thin and none of them will get the right attention that they deserve.
14. Have a coach or mentor
Again, don’t be afraid to ask for help. Having a coach or mentor can keep you on track and improve your motivation to reach your goals.
15. Set yourself goals and reward yourself when you reach them
So now you have a To-Do list and you are charting your achievements. Remember to reward yourself when all of your achievements!
