I'm a Certified MentorCoach (CMC) and a Certified Executive Coach (CEC). What does that mean? It means that I completed a rigorous coach training program through a premier coach training institution, MentorCoach. I've completed over 150 hours of coaching-specific training, 52 of which were in Executive/Business Coaching. In addition to formal coursework, I was required to complete 100 hours of coaching internship during which I coached business professionals, entrepreneurs, doctoral students finishing their degrees, and people looking to shift careers. Many begin the program. Few actually complete it. I'm proud to be one of those few.
You've probably never heard of evidence-based coaching, but it's important. What it means is that the coaching methods that I use are grounded in the social sciences (psychology, in particular) and in neuroscience. Many of the coaching methods out there, like Neurolinguistic Programming (NLP) and Law of Attraction, are unproven. There is no scientific evidence to substantiate their effectiveness. In contrast, the effectiveness of evidence-based methods has been rigorously scientifically tested. Much of the research on which these methods are based has been presented at major conferences, published in prestigeous journals, and subjected to rigorous peer review. What would you rather be paying for?
I have served as a faculty member at two academic institutions, and founded my own consulting company, which offers consulting services in Innovation Management, Leadership, Teamwork, Entrepreneurship, and Organizational Development and Change. You can say that I've seen both sides of the coin -- the practical as well as the academic sides. I taught STEM and management students at the graduate (master's, doctoral) and undergraduate levels. I also taught adult learners who were returning to the classroom to pursue certifications and formal degrees. It was a rewarding experience. I still return to the classroom from time to time, teaching selected courses. It is wonderful experience to bring to coaching.
My research has been presented at numerous professional conferences, including the annual meetings of the Academy of Management, International Conference on Information Systems, Hawaii International Conference on Business, Hawaii International Conference on Systems Sciences, International Association for the Management of Technology, Product Development Management Association, and Society for Interdisciplinary Business Research. Many of these papers have been published in professional journals and in conference proceedings, as well as in edited volumes. My professional affiliations include the International Coach Federation (ICF), Academy of Management (AoM), Interdisciplinary Network for Group Research (INGroup), International Leadership Association (ILA), Product Development Management Association (PDMA), Project Management Institute (PMI), and the Network of Leadership Scholars.
